ChooseFilm Distinctions 2011 winners unveiled

Fujifilm Professional has announced the winners of the Choose Film Distinctions Awards 2011.

The overall winner is Italian-based photographer, Pietro Paolini, who collects a cash prize of 1,000 for his stunning image depicting a view of the economic centre of La Paz, Bolivia. Pietro's winning shot was taken on Fuji Pro-400H 120.

New York-based photographer Lindsay Blair Brown is runner-up and picks up 100 worth of Fujifilm film for her image entitled 'Abandoned South Side of Ellis Island,' whilst Italian photographer Simone Donati was awarded third place and received 50 worth of Fujifilm film for his image taken from his long term project entitled 'Valley of Angels'.

2011 saw the Fujifilm Distinctions Awards join forces with, an international online community dedicated to photographers shooting traditional photographic film, to launch the Choose Film Distinctions Awards. For this year's Awards, photographers were set the brief of creating an image that encompassed the theme of 'Changes.'

From the initial entries, submitted via, the judges chose 16 Merit Awards, each Merit winner was asked to submit a print for final judging.

Pietro Paolini's image drew this response from the Fujifilm judging panel: "The amount of detail Pietro has managed to capture in his image, together with the richness of colour makes it a winning shot. We felt his image incorporated the theme of 'Changes' beautifully and perfectly illustrates the creative and technical benefits of shooting on film."

The ChooseFilm Distinctions Awards attraced entries from photographers from around the world, each taken on Fujifilm Professional film. Gabriel Da Costa from Fujifilm Professional commented on the Awards: "Entries to this year's Awards surpassed all expectations. The theme of 'Changes' resulted in a wide-range of images being received that personally reflected the photographers own interpretation. It is very encouraging to see the amount of talent and enthusiasm going into shooting film and is determined to keep film alive."

Since its launch in 2002, over 35,000 images, all shot on traditional film, have been submitted to Distinctions. Entry to ChooseFilm Distinctions Awards is free and is open to everyone, anywhere in the world. Details of the 2012 Awards will be announced later on in the year.
