New drylab from Fujifilm

Fujifilm has launched the DL600, the latest addition to its range of dry inkjet minilabs, and the new model boasts a wealth of new features.

The DL600 is equipped with an exclusive ink head developed to handle five different-coloured inks with the same ink consumption per unit area as the four-coloured inks of the existing DL series. The minilab uses Fujifilm Quality Inkjet Paper, which has been specially developed to maximize the different coloured inks.

The unit utilises Fujifilm’s proprietary image processing technology ‘Image Intelligence’, to realize high quality prints. The DL600 also features a 720dpi mode for regular printing, and a 1,440dpi high quality print mode. The DL600 is a real workhorse too, capable of printing 650 sheets per hour (based on 4” x 6” prints at 720dpi).

Designed with space saving in mind, the DL600 allows operation at both the front and one side of the printer. The width of the paper roll is less than six inches and extends to 180 meters (591 feet) in length, and the ink cartridge capacity has been increased to 700ml per cartridge, further reducing the need to change consumables. In addition, setting different types of paper and checking the condition of the printer have been further simplified with the addition of an operation panel on the front of the printer. The DL600 is also able to handle paper sizes of up to 12 inches in response to diversifying customer demands.

Drylabs have many advantages over traditional wet labs - there are no hidden costs with dry labs and they use far less power, there is no chemistry to dispose of, no downtime, no maintenance - the retailer simply turns the unit on in the morning and turns it off at the end of the day.

“The DL600 launches the next generation in dry inkjet minilab technology,” says Peter Wigington, Marketing Manager for Fujifilm Photo Imaging Group. “All the new features have been designed with the operator in mind and they make the DL600 even easier to use than its predecessors. The increase in paper size choice gives businesses far more options and will help them to open-up new revenue streams. Dry minilabs have revolutionised many photo retailer’s businesses and the DL600 is set to continue this revolution.”

Through the combination of specialized inkjet paper and five different-coloured inks, the DL600 achieves high image quality, enhanced operability and maintenance, and offers unwavering print quality and increased efficiency. The DL600 responds to the requirements of a wide range of customers, from first-time users of dry minilabs to long-time professional lab operators.
