Fujifilm announces discontinuations

In acknowledgment to recent speculation surrounding film discontinuations, Fujifilm Professional has confirmed that a number of its films have ceased production.

The affected films are:

1. Fujifilm Neopan 400 35mm black and white film
2. Fujichrome Provia 400X 35mm and 120 colour transparency film
3. Fujifilm Superia 400 120 medium format colour negative film
4 Fujifilm Reala 120 medium format colour negative film

Gabriel Da Costa, product manager for professional film, made this comment: "Due to the prominence that digital has in today's society combined with a decline in global demand of traditional films, Fujifilm has had to make a difficult decision to withdraw a number of films from its range. There are still a number of colour transparency, colour negative, instant and black and white films available in our range. We would also like to thank all our customers who have supported these film brands over the years."

Fujifilm is recommending Provia 100F as 400X's replacement. FUJICHROME PROVIA 100F Professional is an ultra-high-quality, daylight-type ISO100 colour reversal film able to capture details with unprecedented clarity, while providing rich gradation, vivid and faithful colour reproduction and well-controlled gradation balance.

In place of Neopan 400, Fujifilm is suggesting photographers switch to Neopan ACROS 100, which achieves the finest granularity for a 100 ISO black and white film due to Fujifilm's Super Fine-Grain Technology.

FUJICOLOR PRO 400H 120 medium format colour negative film is being recommended by Fujifilm as the official alternative to both Superia 400 120and Reala 120 films. Pro 400H incorporates Fujifilm's most highly advanced emulsion technology to produce smooth, natural-looking skin tones, with exceptional detail, to create a film that's perfect for wedding and portrait photography.

Fujifilm are advising consumers who use any affected films to purchase them now before stocks run out completely. Stock is subject to availability.
